On a blustery day in September a quick peek into the Turner Contemporary gallery and the first thing you see is 'Place, Space and Who'. A show by Barbara Walker of five large portrait drawings of African women who have settled in Margate dominate the entrance hall. Good to see work done by hand and eye rather than a concept rendered by technology, I think drawing remains a very powerful and intimate medium, more so than photography, well at least digital.

Close up shot of competitors carving the water on the international descent of the Sella River, an event held since 1930. It has become one of the most important dates on the international canoeing calendar.  On the first Saturday in August, canoeists from all over the world come to Asturias to take part in the Sella River race. More than one thousand canoes paddle it out to be first home over the 20-kilometre course on the Sella River, which runs from the village of Arriondas to the finish line in Ribadesella. The shores are littered with supporters shouting encouragement - I'd need it!

This interior shot of light from one of two entrances of this curved corridor illuminating a seat and rock was part of an outdoor art installation in a private garden in northern Spain. The Garden contained a number of art pieces that reflected the interest and passion of the owners who run a small hotel that is more like a private house. Guests enjoy a tranquil atmosphere surrounded by the foothills of Picos moutains and a large modern house exhibiting a variety bold contemporary Spanish work and a wonderful art library to relax in.

Three of the worlds most talented long distance runners wind down after finishing the 5000 meters at the Diamond League Muller Games at the London stadium, Kenyans, Nicholas Kipkorir Kimeli, Rhonex Kipruto and Paul Kipngetich Tanui. It was great to see so many wonderful athletes turning on the afterburners for our enjoyment on a sunny afternoon in London.

Blog, Battle of Britain airshow. Spitfires on grass, pilots in period uniform. WRAF officer in foreground.

A kneeling WRAF officer in period clothes gazes at the spectators during the Battle of Britain airshow at Imperial War Museum Duxford with a line of assorted Spifires on right ready to take flight. Their pilots are the in distance in their period uniform. And here's the thing, these planes were flown in from all over the country by ther owners for the day and they flew them home at the end. Forget arriving in a supercar - flying in and out in your own Spitfire now that's panache!
